What
is a School Council?
School Councils were
created as part of the provisions of the A+ Education Reform Act.
The School Council is an advisory group which provides advice and recommendations
to the school principal on issues such as student achievement and the Local
School Plan for Improvement, school-community communication strategies,
budget priorities and staffing needs. Additionally, the Annistown
School Council maintains the Tiger Pride program and Teaching Excellence
Fund which were created by the Committee for School Excellence.
Membership of the council
includes a minimum of seven members, including the school principal and
an equal number of parent and teacher representatives, among others.
A minimum of four meetings is required annually.
As prescribed by the
Reform Act, the School Council is comprised of at least two teachers, at
least two parents, two business representatives and the principal.
The members serve for two years and attend monthly meetings which are open
to all.
The dates and times
of the School Council meetings are listed below. Please plan to join
us for these meetings. School wide issues and informational sessions
are planned. The School Council offers a great opportunity to learn
more about the many programs which we offer students and to be part of
the planning for future endeavors!
