| | Reflections
Reflections is a cultural arts
program of the National PTA. It is an extracurricular program designed to
allow students to participate in the arts.
Each year, students from all over
the nation submit their works of art (based on the current theme) and have an
opportunity to compete with students of their own grade level. judging is
conducted by outside experts and awards are given for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place as
well as Honorable Mention. All 1st Place winners for each category for
each grade level are then forwarded to the Gwinnett County level for judging,
then State, and then National. Last year, we had 2 students recognized at
the County level for their creative works.
Students submit entries in any or
all of the categories: Visual Arts, Photography, Music, Literature, Dance
Choreography, & Film/Video Production. An info packet will be sent home.
-
Every entry is judged on the basis of
artistic merit, creativity, and interpretation of theme.
-
It is strongly suggested that each student give
their entry or entries a title and fill out the “optional artist
statement” on the Official Entry Form. This statement allows the artist
to convey why or how their work interprets the theme; which will be taken
into consideration by the judges.
-
Students may submit more than one entry in
any or all of the four art areas.
The Official Entry Form must be signed by both the student and a parent or
guardian. We recommend placing the form in a sheet protector and taping it
to the back of the Visual Arts / Photo Entry. Students should attach
Official Entry Form per instructions for Literature and Musical
Compositions.
-
All entries must be the original creation
of one student only; parents,
friends, and teachers must not assist the student. Plagiarism of any kind
will immediately cause the entry to be disqualified from the program.
-
Make a copy of the entry if possible before
submitting to the program.
Entries that win at the local level may go on to compete in the County,
state, and national competitions and may not be returned until May 2008 (if
the entry competes at the national level).
