Dr. F.A. McLeod, Principal
Dr. McLeod was born
in Akron, Ohio. She grew up
with two brothers, Tom and Jerry. As
a child, she loved singing, reading, swimming, and playing piano and
tennis. She was the
salutatorian of her high school and a National Merit Scholarship
recipient.
She graduated from
the University of Notre Dame with a Telecommunications major and from
St. Mary’s College with a teaching certificate.
Her first job was as a reporter for NBC.
Then she moved to Boston where she worked for a Fortune 500
company in their in-house video department.
Shortly thereafter she moved to Atlanta, Dr. McLeod worked in
advertising for Trust Company Bank and then as the Advertising Director
for Lanier Business Products.
When her second
child was born, she changed careers and became a teacher in Gwinnett
County. In her 25 years in
education, Dr. McLeod has worked at Norton, Craig, Camp Creek and
Berkeley Lake Elementary schools. She
has earned her MEd from Georgia State University, her Specialist degree
from the University of Georgia and her doctorate from NOVA Southeastern
University. She has taught
students in grades K-5 as well as gifted classes and specials.
Currently, Dr.
McLeod is the mom of five children, ranging in age from 18-29 and
grandmother of three-year-old Brody.
She lives in Snellville with her husband – the other Dr. McLeod
– and their dog, Oreo. She
is proud and excited to be principal of the best school in the world
- Berkeley Lake Elementary!
Mr. Jim Carter, Assistant Principal
Mr. Carter has taught 2nd-7th
grades both as a home room and as a specials teacher. He enjoys music,
technology, reading, model trains and education, and is very excited to be
at BLES! For his undergraduate studies, he completed a double-major in
Elementary Education and Organ Performance & Pedagogy at Brigham Young
University and earned his Master's in Educational Leadership from Mercer
University. Mr. Carter is an Eagle Scout and is currently a scoutmaster for
a local troop. He and his wife, Rebecca, have known each other since they
were eight years old and have six children.
Mrs. Sophia Barton
Mrs. Angela Schoenknecht, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Schoenknecht has been an Assistant Principal with Gwinnett County
Public School for seven years. Before stepping into this leadership role,
she taught third grade for eleven years. She earned her bachelors degree from
Auburn University, master's degree from Georgia State University, leadership
certification from the University of Georgia, and specialist's degree from
University of West Georgia. Mrs. Schoenknecht and her husband grew up
in Huntsville, Alabama. They have a beautiful 3 year old daughter who keeps
them young at heart! In her free time, she loves to read and work Sudoko
puzzles!
