Tutoring
BLAST is an after-school tutoring program at
Berkeley Lake Elementary School, and is supported by our classroom teachers.
The program purpose is to remediate
students who need additional academic support. Students in the program are
referred by their teacher. Sessions are after school Tuesday, Wednesday &
Thursday.
Criteria for student to be referred for
BLAST:

1st - 5th grade
-
Retained in present grade
-
Below average grades in Math and/or
Language Arts
-
Recommendation from classroom teacher
(academic contract, ESOL modification, or IEP)
-
Level 1 in any subject area on the CRCT

Sunshine Math Club
- no registration, no fee - just come participate!
All students at BLES are invited to participate
in this PTA sponsored enrichment program. The program runs for a total
of 10 weeks starting in August and again in January.
Challenging problem solving
worksheets are offered to each grade level. This optional program is
intended to be a FUN activity for students who WANT to solve problems.
Your role as their parent is to encourage and facilitate problem solving.
Parents should not solve the problem for their child, but rather offer support
or explanations of unfamiliar terminology. At the conclusion of each 10 week program,
the students that regularly participated get a certificate and they also get to attend an ice cream party.
Details:
Get a new Problem Sheet in Friday folder.
Work on problems at home with parents.
Test questions are modeled after CRCT exam questions.
Turn in completed sheets on following Friday.
Get graded sheets back at next Club Session (graded by parent volunteers).
Grades 1-5 - The teachers distribute
Sunshine Math worksheets to children in Friday folders.
Students
who wish to participate simply come to the cafeteria on Friday mornings,
between 7:45 and 8:15, pick up a problem sheet, and return it the following
week.
Kindergarten - The teachers distribute
Sunshine Math worksheets to children in Friday folders. Students
who wish to participate complete their problem sheets and return them to the
classroom teacher. Kindergarten will participate 2nd semester only (all
10 sheets in Spring).
To earn a Certificate and Ice Cream Party:
Kindergarten must complete 10 sheets
Spring: Feb-Mar
1st - 5th must complete 10 sheets/semester
Fall:
Aug-Nov
Spring: Jan -Mar

Terrific Thursdays
Terrific Thursdays is an enrichment program that allows
children to learn new skills. The program is open to students in all
grades. Teachers volunteer to teach classes after school on Thursdays from
3:15-4:30 pm. Teachers send forms home in Friday folders.
Parents are responsible for picking up their children
at 4:15 pm in the lower parking lot.
Chess Club
After school chess club is offered on Tuesdays at BLES
(2011-2012).

Violin Classes

Music Matters After School
provides a quality after school strings program for students in Grades 2nd
through 5th. Classes are held at BLES weekly on Mondays from 3-5 PM.
Students also perform on and off campus with a professional production
