This is my sixth  year at Cooper.  I taught fifth grade here for two years before moving to third grade. I  have also taught fourth grade for several years. I  took many years off  from  my teaching career to stay home and be a full time mom.   I was lucky to be able to stay home when my children were very young.  I knew one day that I would want to return to the classroom.

I got my Education Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.  Now, my youngest daughter is a student there.  My family really enjoys going back there, especially for the football games to cheer for the Golden Eagles.  My daughter is a junior there and is working towards a degree in Photojournalism.  She is an avid photographer.   She enjoyed coming to Cooper at the beginning of the year to take pictures of each of my students for their journal.

I also have two other children that are now adults  My oldest child graduated from the University of West Georgia in Finance.  She has been married for almost two years now.  She is an accountant and is working for a CPA in Roswell.  My middle child was in the U.S. Navy  for three years.  He was assigned to the Nuclear Power Program in Charleston, South Carolina.  He is now enrolled in school and is interested in Civil Engineering.

I am really enjoying my  third graders this year.  One of the reasons I enjoy third grade so much is the curriculum.  We study many interesting units especially in Science and Social Studies. I also enjoy watching the students become more independent in their daily activities.  Third grade is a very important year because the students must pass the Reading portion of the CRCT in order to be promoted to the fourth grade.  We will incorporate many of the skills throughout the school year in  order to feel confident about the test.
I will communicate with the parents by sending out a weekly newsletter.  These are very informative and help the parents plan ahead for activities and important tests that will be coming up.  The best way to get in touch with me about any concerns is by email (Kathy_Bruister@gwinnett.k12.ga.us). I will  usually respond to your concern that day.  Please feel free to contact me at any time.  I look forward to working with you and your child this year.
