Ms. Walker's First Grade

Hello,
I teach first grade at Cooper Elementary. I have been here at Cooper since
it opened. Before Cooper I worked at Pharr Elementary for three years.
I worked at Nesbit Elementary for seven years before Pharr. In March I
will finish up my Masters in Education at Piedmont. I have been in education
for over 20 years. My experience has been in first, second and kindergarten.
I have a daughter that is married and lives just a few miles from me.

| Our
first grade team works together to make sure that each and every first
grader is a successful learner. First graders work hard learning to read
and work on problem solving as well as addition and subtration. We have
lots of hands on experiences and learning centers. It is very important
that your child attend school every day unless they are sick and arrives
to school on time.

| In
the beginning of the year we set our expectation of our rules and what
is expected from each child during the school year. We have a behavior
chart that we set up and follow throughout the year. Our class works hard
to respect each other and to make sure that we consider each others feelings.
Each week there is sent home a Friday folder which contains the specials
for the following week. It also contains what we have been working on and
what the homework will be for the following week. The homework is to be
turned in on Thursday of the up and coming week. The curriculum AKS are
listed that will be covered the next week. There is also a parent section
to inform you of all up and coming events and holidays. It is very important
that you look at your child's work and this newsletter to stay on top of
what is going on in our classroom. Communication is very important to maintaining
a positive relationship between the parents and teacher. I work hard to
keep parents informed and up dated on their child's progress and behavior
weekly with a conduct and work habits sheet that is placed in the
Friday Folder. After a few weeks I welcome parents to come in and help
with centers , read to the class and come in for our Cooper Kid of the
Week. Click here for class schedule Click here for class list Click here for spelling list |
