Craig Elementary school, located in Snellville, GA, is a part of the Brookwood Cluster in Gwinnett County Public Schools. The school, which was named for a prominent landowner who helped rebuild Gwinnett County after the Civil War, has seen substantial changes since it opened its doors in 1993. However, one thing has remained constant over the 20-year history of the school… its commitment to excellence and to serving students.
Craig opened in 1993 with 700 students and 60 staff members. The school’s enrollment peaked in 2007 when it served 1231 students. Currently, the school has 1056 students and 118 staff members. Its teachers are dedicated to lifelong learning with 32 percent holding bachelor’s degrees, 44 percent holding master’s degrees, and 24 percent having earned specialist’s degrees. In addition, the school boasts a veteran staff with 51 percent of its staff having more than 16 years of teaching experience. (Fifteen percent of Craig’s teachers have 26-plus years’ experience in the classroom.)
Craig takes pride in using research-based instructional strategies and data to tailor instruction to meet the individual needs of each child. Teachers turn the data into information to determine which appropriate instructional strategy to use in enriching, accelerating, or remediating instruction. This approach is part of the school’s effort to create a rigorous instructional program that provides students with rich learning opportunities.
In 2002, Craig Elementary received the School of Excellence Award. Since then it has been recognized by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement at the Gold level (2012) and at the Bronze level (2010) for Highest Percentage of Students Meeting or Exceeding Academic Standards on the CRCT.
The Craig Elementary community highly values the important role education plays in building a thriving, global community and strongly support our school’s pursuit of excellence. The finest teachers in the profession, involved parents, and a supportive community are key elements in our school’s quest to become a world-class school.
