Central Gwinnett High School Art Teacher and Student's Artwork in Exhibition
Art from Georgia Schools: North Georgia College and State University Annual Exhibition of Georgia Art Educators and their Students
Vickie A. Johnson, Central Gwinnett High School visual arts teacher and her student, Gabriel Campoy-Gonzalez, artwork has been selected for display at the Art from Georgia Schools: North Georgia College and State University Annual Exhibition of Georgia Art Educators and their Students. The selected works are: Evening Bloom and A Walk on Chimney Rock.
The awards ceremony is on February 18, 2010 from 5:00 - 6:30 PM, at the Bob Owens Art Gallery, Room 315, in the Hoag Student Center, Dahlonega, Georgia.

Benito Thompson, All-American High School Honors Orchestra
Benito Thompson, violinist in the Brookwood HS Orchestra program, has been selected to perform with the All-American High School Honors Orchestra. Cathie Hudnall, orchestra director at Brookwood HS, recommended Benito for this honors orchestra, and he was accepted after submitting an application and recording. Benito will rehearse in New York City in June, and will perform on June 27, 2010 in Carnegie Hall.
Best of Gwinnett 2009, Duluth Orchestra Program
The Duluth Orchestra Program has been named as a Best of Gwinnett Winner in the Best Artistic/Cultural Scene Category. This tribute to the Duluth Orchestra Program will appear in the Best of Gwinnett Magazine, 2010 January issue. This was the only
school program to be picked in this category as the other winners were community or professional arts organizations.

 Gwinnett County Public Schools 2009 Scholastic Art Regional Winners
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers (Scholastic Art and Writing Awards) celebrates the creative achievement of America’s teens. In 1923, The Awards were founded in order to offer recognition and scholarships for students for their artistic talents, instead of their academic or athletic abilities. Students who excel in the visual arts and creative writing participate in The Awards in order to earn recognition, get their work exhibited or published, and to earn scholarships.
RECOGNITION
During the 2010 program year, more than 30,000 students will be recognized in their local communities, and 1,000 students will receive National Awards. Students and teachers are celebrated at regional ceremonies, public events and the national ceremony at Carnegie Hall.
Regional Awards
Gold Key: The highest level of achievement on the regional level. Gold Key works are forwarded to New York City for national adjudication.
American Visions & Voices Nominees: Works named “Best of Show” for each Region.
Silver Key: Works worthy of recognition on the regional level.
Honorable Mention: Work demonstrating artistic potential.
National Awards
Gold Medal: The most outstanding works in the nation.
American Visions & Voices Medal: Works selected from the American Visions & Voices nominees as the national “Best in Region.”
Silver Medal: Works demonstrating high honors on the national level

Gold and Silver Key artwork will be included in the Scholastic Regional Art Exhibition at the Georgia State University Art and Humanities Building. The Exhibition will open on Monday, November 30, 2009 and conclude with a closing reception and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 1:00 in the Georgia State University Student Center Ballroom. Congratulations to Debi West and Bruce Bowman
The personal art work of Debi West and Bruce Bowman, visual arts teachers at North Gwinnett High School, has been accepted in the 2009 Georgia Art Education Association Juried Member's Exhibit at Young Harris College. Only visual arts teachers in Georgia were allowed to submit works of art for this prestigious state art competition. There were just 36 pieces of art work selected for this exhibit from art teachers across the state. There will be a reception for Ms. West and Dr. Bowman at 8:00 PM on Thursday evening, November 12, 2009 at 8:00 PM at Young Harris College.
Phoenix HS Student Winners at the International Student Media Festival in Louisville, KY

Phoenix High School students won 29 awards at the International Student Media Festival (ISMF) in Louisville, Kentucky on October 30, 2009, including six judges' favorites. The Phoenix students were winners in the Gwinnett Media Festival and the Georgia Media Festival. These competitions qualified the students to enter their projects in the ISMF competition. Seven Phoenix projects won at all three levels. The remaining 22 winners were in the single photography category, which only exists at the International level. On November 19, 2009, there will be an awards ceremony at Phoenix HS where the ISMF winners will receive their trophies and certificates to celebrate their fantastic work.
On October 23 Dr. Aimee Burgamy, Trickum MS visual arts teacher, was named the 2009 Great American Teacher. The Ron Clark Academy teamed up with Great American Financial Resources, Inc.,to present and host the event. The gala began at 7 PM on the Red Carpet of the W. Atlanta Midtown Hotel and then moved into The Grand Room for an amazing Awards Program. The program was broadcast LIVE on the Florida Education Channel (FEC), was picked up by other public broadcast channels across the nation, and was streamed live at www.fec.tv.
Aimee won a $10,000 cash award, a $5,000 cash gift for Trickum MS, a Promethean ActivBoard for her classroom, and A Complete Audio Enhancement System for her classroom, a Dell Color-Laser printer for her classroom, and a personalized Dell Tablet PC, the industry's first table PC with multi-touch screen technology.
