Visual Arts Program Competition
The first annual Gala Awards Ceremony of THE DREAM Art Contest (Visions of the Civil Rights Movement and America Today) was held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Henry W. Grady High School in Atlanta. Donna Lowry, Education Reporter, 11Alive News was the Master of Ceremonies, and The Honorable Congressman John R. Lewis was the Keynote Speaker and Awards Presenter. Gwinnett County Public Schools had two winners, Daniel Cifuentes, art student at Kanoheda ES, was First-Runner Up in the elementary division for his work entitled, "M.L.K." and Song Choi, junior art student at Lanier HS, was the Grand Prize winner for her work entitled, "No More Silence For Us." Daniel's art teacher is Roslyn Acosta and Song's art teacher is Jack Foreman.
Seventh District's Annual Congressional High School Art Competition Winners Announced

Lawrenceville, GA— A panel of seven judges has unanimously selected the winning piece of artwork for the Seventh District’s Annual Congressional High School Art Competition. The award ceremony for the winner and runners up was held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Jacqueline Casey Hudgens Art Center in Duluth.
The winner, Michelle Partogi of the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, painted a graphic commentary of the Holocaust. She will receive a $10,000 scholarship from the Art Institute of Atlanta and an annual $1500 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design. She will also receive two roundtrip tickets from Southwest Airlines in order to attend the National Gala opening at the U.S. Capitol where she and other Congressional Art Competition winners from across the country will be honored. The event will be held on June 22, 2011. Winning artwork will be displayed in the underground tunnel leading from the Congressional office buildings to the U.S. Capitol for one year.
The second place winner was Hillary Jones of North Gwinnett High School, and the third place winner was Kelly Glennon of the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. These two students will receive scholarships to the Atlanta Art Institute in the amounts of $5,000 and $2,500 respectively.
“Seventy-seven students, representing eight high schools in the Seventh District, submitted artwork for our Congressional Art Competition. I am proud to represent a district where students are willing to push their creative boundaries and present their artistic endeavors for all to observe and appreciate,” Woodall said. “Ms. Partogi is a wonderful example of the kind of talented young people you will find in the schools here in the Seventh District, and I wish her the best in her future pursuits.”
“I want to thank our judges for their participation, as well as the Art Institute of Atlanta and the Savannah College of Art and Design for their very generous contributions to this event in the form of scholarships for our winners. I would also like to say a special thank you to the teachers who have dedicated their lives to education, and have worked with these students to ensure that they maximize their creative potential. The talented work I saw today is a real testament to the job they have done.”

All State Art Symposium Competition ~ GCPS Award Winners
The following Gwinnett County Public Schools visual arts students competed in the All State Art Symposium (ASAS) competition that was judged by Michael Rooks, High Museum of Art Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art and Mindy Spritz, Director of Education & Development for the Spruill Center for the Arts in Atlanta. The 2011 ASAS awards ceremony was held on Friday, May 6, at the Kennesaw State University Visual Arts building. This year’s All State Art Symposium state level judging included 141 submissions from high school art students throughout Georgia.  CredAbility Poster Contest Winners Regional Art Winners
CredAbility Nonprofit Credit Counseling & Education, a member of the National Federation of Credit Counseling, held a poster contest based on the theme, "Be A Superhero, Save Money." The following Gwinnett County Public Schools artists have been announced as regional winners of this contest and each of them will receive a savings bond from the Federal Reserve. Their artwork will also be entered in the national poster contest held by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.

State Botanical Garden of Georgia Art Competition
"Inversion" by Katie Siegel, Collins Hill High School

The winners of the statewide art competition sponsored by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia have been announced. Katie Siegel, art student of Karen Campbell of Collins Hill HS, won second place and a cash prize of $500 in the competition with her watercolor and ink artwork, "Inversion." Read more . . . .
