Be a Safe "Surfer"

Welcome to a webquest about internet safety. What's a webquest??? Click on the introduction to learn more and to get started. You can do this webquest alone, with a partner, or with your family.

If you don't go to Minor Elementary School, welcome! Thanks for using this webquest which was designed for fourth and fifth graders at Minor. Mrs. Page is the technology coordinator at Minor Elementary and would enjoy hearing from everyone who uses this webquest. It is a good idea to find a teacher or technology specialist at your school, or an adult in your family, to look over your work after you complete this webquest. Thanks for your hard work and I hope you're a safe surfer now and in the future!!

The checklists and guidelines will help you stay on track and get help from a partner or teacher. Go to the work page now. What's a WebQuest?

  • usually has something you create or produce to show what you've learned.

What is this webquest for?

  • to help you learn important internet safety rules
  • to help your family develop internet rules
  • to help you teach younger students about being safe on the internet
  • to give you and your family some web sites about internet safety to use in family discussions
  • to give you contact with some people to ask for help with difficult situations you encounter using the internet

Activities:
(choose at least one)

  • Write a letter to your parents about internet issues you want to talk over as a family. Get a friend or teacher to help you edit it and improve your letter. Type a final copy to give to your parents.
  • Design a poster to teach second or third graders one rule about being safe on the internet. Draw a storyboard on paper to plan your poster. Get a friend or teacher to help check it and make suggestions. Use KidPix or Clarisworks Drawing to make your poster. Give a copy to Mrs. Page if you want yours displayed in the lab.
  • Make an internet safety poster to use by your home computer. Draw a storyboard on paper to plan your poster. Include at least 5 rules. Get your parents to look it over and make suggestions. Make your poster using KidPix or Clarisworks Drawing.
  • Work with 2 or 3 friends to make a slide show teaching another class about being safe on the internet. Draw a storyboard on paper to plan the slide show. Include at least 5 rules. Use KidPix or Hyperstudio to make your slide show.
