Oakland Meadow School opened in July,
2007.
July, 2007 marked the opening of the the "new" Oakland
Meadow School. Formerly named Oakland School. The School is located at a new address and has changed the
name to Oakland Meadow School.
Oakland Meadow adjoins the existing Winn
Holt Elementary School. Oakland Meadow has a new beginning with a new facility
but the school has a rich history and treasured past.
Oakland Meadow is a
Gwinnett County Public School that serves the special education
needs of students ages 3-21 who have deficits in cognitive and motor
development. Opened in early 1978, Oakland has a long history of serving
students with severe disabilities from Gwinnett County. Programs at
Oakland Meadow have received local, state and national recognition.
Oakland Meadow is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools.
Students who attend Oakland Meadow are provided
comprehensive educational services and transportation. Many also receive
speech and language therapy, occupational and/or physical therapy,
adaptive physical education, and ancillary support by a registered nurse
and a licensed social worker.
Oakland Meadow students benefit from being in close
proximity to
Margaret Winn Holt Elementary School.
The two schools are joined by a common wall. On occasion, Oakland Meadow students
participate in selected classes at Winn Holt and are also invited to
participate in assembly programs. Both schools utilize a single
cafeteria. This partnership has helped educate both populations of
students about differences.
