DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

Oakland Meadow School houses a school-based social worker who is available to work with Oakland Meadow students and their families. The social worker's job role is to provide direct and supportive services to students and parents when there are social, emotional, medical and/or economic problems that interfere with student learning. The goal of social work intervention is to provide the supports that enable students to realize their highest potential at school, at home and in the community.
Social Worker interventions include:

  • Individual and family assessments that result in brief counseling, recommendations and
    referral

  • Crisis intervention

  • Referral of individual children and parents to community agencies and individual professionals for financial, medical, emotional, and/or other support services

  • Staff consultation

  • Community agency liaison work

  • Interdisciplinary teamwork to promote and help implement comprehensive and
    appropriate educational programs

  • Coordination of the Oakland School Care Team and Parent Education programs

The social worker also coordinates volunteers in the community to work in Oakland Meadow classrooms. Volunteers come from local high schools, universities, and from the school's local business partner mentoring program. Individuals interested in volunteering are asked to contact the Oakland School Social Worker.
