5th Grade Chorus

Chorus is a fun and exciting extra-curricular activity. Mrs. Grimsley is the school’s choral director. All 5^th graders are eligible to join the Rock Springs Chorus for a cost of $65 per child. Auditions for chorus are held the second week of school each year. The chorus sings at a Gwinnett Braves game, a Gwinnett Gladiator game, at 5^th grade awards night each year and at other venues throughout the year. The Chorus also presents a Christmas and spring musical each year. Rehearsals are every Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:00 in the music room.

Robotics Club

The After school Robotics Club introduces second through fifth grade students to robotics when combined with the LEGO Education WeDo Robotics Software and Activity Pack. The purpose of the club is to use robotics education as a vehicle for teaching key science, technology, engineering, and mathematical problem solving. Using WeDo Robotics Getting Started Kit, 24 – 30 students work together in pairs or teams of three to build and program a robot to solve a problem. At the last session, parents are invited to see the students’ accomplishments.

The After School Robotics Club is usually held every Thursday from 2:45 – 4:30 in the science lab for 6 weeks. The cost is $65 per child. If you have any questions, please contact Dawn White or Fran Jones, FOCUS teachers.

Club Click!!

Calling all budding photographers in 4^th & 5^th grade

Club Click is a new after school club at Rock Springs. We will meet once a week to learn how to take better pictures with a digital camera, create digital picture projects and share these projects with four other schools across the country that are participating in Club Click. Our projects will be shared on a Club Click website. Students who have a camera are welcome to bring them to club meetings, but we will also have cameras for students to use.

Meeting day/time: Mondays 3-4pm starting Monday September 12^th

Meeting dates:

Sept. 12^th , 19^th and 26^th

October 17^th& 24^th

November 7^th, 14 & 28th

Cost: $25 per student

Club Click has limited spots, so turn in your form as soon as possible.

After School Fitness Program

Our very popular and successful Afterschool Fitness Program is returning this fall. This program is designed to provide physical exercise for students after the regular school day. The students will rotate among activities designed by our Physical Education teacher and led by Rock Springs teachers. The program is one hour in length, two days per week, for a total of 8 weeks. This is 8 weeks for $70. I feel very strongly that regular physical exercise greatly benefits the overall wellness of our children, and I also believe it has a positive impact on academic achievement. I hope you will consider registering your child for this program. If so, please complete the form below and return it to your child’s teacher with full payment. If you have any questions, please contact John Miller, our Physical Education instructor, at 678-714-5836.

THE FACTS:

-         Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 – 4:00 PM in the gym

-    August 22 – October 20 (we will not meet Sept 5, Oct 3 and Oct 10)

-    $70 is due with the registration sheet

-    Checks payable to Rock Springs

-    Send payment with registration sheet by August 18

-    Parents need to pick up students at 4:00 in the car rider area near the gym

-     Students may bring a water bottle
