WELCOME
The Rock Springs Elementary staff would like to welcome you to our 2009-2010 school year. We have worked very hard to plan and prepare for a successful year which will include concentrated emphasis on reading, writing, mathematics, technology, and building a school climate that is comfortable, motivating, safe and secure. We are prepared to successfully guide our students toward mastery of the Academic Knowledge and Skills, and we are committed to providing opportunities for students to practice respect and responsibility. We feel so very fortunate to be continuing in such a beautiful facility filled with state of the art resources. We eagerly await a long and successful parent / school partnership!

Gwinnett County Go Portal
Parent Portal News:
You may have heard about Gwinnett's new Parent Portal. The Parent Portal is a
website that will allow you to log in and see your child's information, such as
attendance, grades, CRCT test scores, etc. Right now the Parent Portal is being
piloted in the Dacula cluster, but all schools will begin using it in
Mid-February 2010. In order to be registered with the portal, you will need to complete a
registration form and turn it in to your child's teacher
during parent-teacher conferences in November. Along with the completed
form, you are required to show a photo I.D. for verification. Teachers will
have a copy of the form at that time, but if you would like to get a head start,
you can find the form, along with more information about the new portal, by
following the link below.

As you know, Gwinnett schools were not in session on Monday, September 21 and 22 due to the floods that struck the Atlanta area. These "flood days" will be made up using the first two designated make-up days: February 12 and March 15. Students and staff will now be in session on these two days.
GCPS adds two new make-up snow days to school calendar: February 15 and April 2
Traditionally, the district designates at least three days for days missed to
wintry weather. Currently, the district only has one scheduled make-up day left
in the calendar, May 27. As winter has not even begun and there is the chance
that inclement weather may force additional school closings, Gwinnett County
Public Schools is amending its 2009-10 school calendar to include two more snow
make-up days. These days will be: Monday, Feb. 15 and Friday, April 2. Both of
these days were originally scheduled as student/staff holidays. Feb.
15 will now be designated snow make-up day #1 and April 2 will be snow
make-up day #2, and May 27 will remain as snow make-up day #3. If the district
does not need to use these days as make-up days, they will be holidays for
students and staff.
Testing Calendar Changes:
In an effort to provide students with the best CRCT testing opportunity and in
response to feedback received from teachers and parents, elementary and middle
school CRCT testing dates are changing for the 2010 administration.
The main changes in the calendar are:
•
CRCT / Grades 1 & 2 on April 14-16
(not April 20-22)
•
CRCT / Grades 3-8 on April 19-23
(not April 13-19)
•
CAR Grades 4 & 7 on March 29-April 1
(not April 26-30 and May 3)
• Grades 5 & 8 Writing Retest on May 4 (not April 29)
