Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to a new year and a NEW Summerour Middle School! On behalf of the faculty and staff, we thank you for the opportunity to serve our community.

The 2015-16 school will be my seventh year as the proud principal of SMS. I can assure you that we will continue to be “committed to creating a culture of excellence by working hard and being nice!”

As an International Baccalaureate school, our goal is to provide a world-class education to ALL students. We expect ALL students to:

  • Wear school uniforms every day
  • Keep a positive attitude
  • Read daily
  • Be respectful, responsible role models

Parents are always welcome to come and be a part of the wonderful teaching and learning going on here at Summerour Middle School. We ask you to “Be There In Your Child’s Life.”

Sincerely,
Dorothy P. Jarrett
Principal

We have received the following health update from the Georgia Department of Public Health. We are sharing this information as this is a topic that is on many people's minds. According to state health officials, to date, no locally transmitted Zika cases have been reported in Georgia or anywhere in the United States, but cases have been reported in returning travelers. And with many popular spring break destinations (Caribbean, Central America, South America, Pacific Islands, and Mexico) experiencing outbreaks of the Zika virus, this information could be of interest. Gwinnett County Public Schools has posted the attached update on its web page for Health and Wellness Resources.
