  • Keep a positive attitude
  • Read daily
  • Be respectful, responsible role models

Parents are always welcome to come and be a part of the wonderful teaching and learning going on here at Summerour Middle School. We ask you to “Be There In Your Child’s Life.”

We have received the following health update from the Georgia Department of Public Health. We are sharing this information as this is a topic that is on many people's minds. According to state health officials, to date, no locally transmitted Zika cases have been reported in Georgia or anywhere in the United States, but cases have been reported in returning travelers. And with many popular spring break destinations (Caribbean, Central America, South America, Pacific Islands, and Mexico) experiencing outbreaks of the Zika virus, this information could be of interest. Gwinnett County Public Schools has posted the attached update on its web page for Health and Wellness Resources.

IB Reauthorization Survey: Time Sensitive

Summerour Middle School is looking forward to IB re-authorization and, as part of the continuing process, we need to have parent and student representatives from our school complete surveys. These are posted on Facebook, but also here. If you took this survey off of Facebook, no need to do so again.

Soccer Tourney @ Bryson Park

Game 1: Summerour defeated Pinckneyville, 6-0. 8th grader Alexis C. had a hat trick, and Pamela L. scored a goal on her birthday! This game put Summerour at the top of our group: North America.

Game 2: Summerour lost to Northbrook, 3-5. Northbrook was well organized and the game was close until the end. Northbrook ended up in 2nd place for the whole tournament, so we lost to a great team.

Game 3: Summerour lost a nail-biter to Berkmar in a sudden death shootout. While we played our best game of the day, we made some critical mistakes and allowed Berkmar to come back from a 5-2 deficit. The game ended at 6-6, and after 5 PKs, the game was still tied. Every player on the field eventually had to take a PK shot.

Our students fought hard and have a lot to be proud of.

Astronomy Night 2016

Summerour hosted another successful astronomy night last Friday night.

Led by the members of the Atlanta Astronomy Club, we were treated to a slide show about rockets and shuttles. Outside, the club had four amazing telescopes set up through which everyone was able to view Jupiter and five of its moons, the nebula in Orion, and Pleides.

In past years, we have enjoyed a crowd of about 75-150, but Friday night we lost count at around 235!! Amazing. Lots of families in attendance.
