Mrs. Jarrett's Weekly Message

December 10, 2018

Good Morning and welcome back to the last 8 days of 1st semester!

I hope that each and every one of you had a wonderful weekend and have returned today well rested and ready to be laser-focused on teaching and learning. It is hard for me to believe that we are already so close to Winter Break and that the County Post Tests start this week.  Please make sure you are on top of your learning, communicating with your teachers, focusing on passing all your classes and ready to show what you know on the post test.  You have to concentrate on what’s important, that means doing your very best everyday.

We know that it is hard to concentrate on being successful in school if there is drama happening in your life.  Remember, “If anything ever happens whether you are in school or out of school that makes you sad or uncomfortable, you have support here, talk with a teacher, your counselor, your administrator or me.”  We really are here to support you.

Students, hopefully, you took time to read over the weekend.  Remember, one of the promises I made to you on the first day of school was, if you read daily you will do better academically.  It is my hope that each and every one of you will focus on doing what is right.  Unfortunately, we had some 7th and 8th graders who chose not to do the right things last week.  Several are going to a panel.  I’ve made it very clear that we will not tolerate fighting here at Summerour.

Speaking about doing what is right….it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you our December Students of the Month.

First we have 6th grader Efren R.  Efren’s teachers report that he comes to class prepared and eager to participate.  Good job Efren!  Our 7th grader is Ethan K..  He exemplifies being a role model.  That’s awesome Ethan!  Our 8th grade Student of the Month is Sharel C.  Her teachers reported that she works hard, gives her best effort every day and she has a positive attitude!  Please join me in congratulating all of our students of the month.

Speaking of positive attitudes…the Science Fair was incredibly successful!  There will be 12 projects and 21 students participating in the Gwinnett County Engineering and Science Fair on Friday, February 22 at the Infinite Energy Center!! Please look for the names of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Winners on the Blue Devil Block news.

Speaking of winners. . .Summerour Middle School 8th grader Rafed H. is our 2018-19 Spelling Bee Winner!  Kudos to Ms. Weaver and Ms. Daly for a well-organized experience for our students.

A huge shout out to the over 100+ students who came for Saturday tutoring.  Thanks to the many teachers who were here to provide more time and opportunity for our students to master the curriculum.  Congrats to our girls’ basketball team for the win against Lilburn MS on Saturday!  Also, kudos to the Theatre Arts students who were inducted into the International Thespian Society Friday night.  Teachers and students, please come out to support our Band, Chorus and Orchestra Winter Concert at 6 p.m. tomorrow night. We hope to see you there.  In addition, please wish the students in the final round of the Geography Bee good luck.

Our IB profile word for this week is COMMUNICATORS. We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways.  We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.  Teachers please post and discuss what it means to be a COMMUNICATOR and give out blue bucks to students who show they listen carefully to the perspective of others.

Let’s all make sure we are laser-focused on teaching and learning.  Everyone must be “committed to creating a culture of excellence by working hard and being nice”!

Have an Epic week!
