Attention 7th grade parents….FYI – ACT, SAT, and TIP

In the seventh grade, students may apply to take either the SAT or the ACT at any time that it is offered.  Applications are made directly through the testing service for a specified fee.   Scores are reported to you individually and to Trickum, but they do not become part of the student’s permanent record.  The scores dissolve after one year.  Helpful information may be obtained online at www.collegeboard.com or phone 609-771-7600.
Additionally, the Talent Identification Program (TIP) is available to ranking seventh and eighth grade students.  In Georgia, it is administered by Duke University and requires a 95th percentile score on an achievement test.  Its purpose is to identify the finest mathematical and verbal students using SAT and ACT scores.  TIP participants have an additional fee that includes the cost of registration for the ACT or SAT tests.  Comparison scores are compiled through Duke University and reported to parents.  An awards ceremony for qualifying TIP participants is limited to seventh grade students only.    Applicants may access the program directly with Duke University at www.tip.duke.edu or phone 919-668-9100.
To register for TIP online, a student must be at least 13 years old.  The two deadlines for TIP registration are October 3, 2011 for the December 3rd (SAT) or December 10th (ACT)  testing and November 1, 2011 for January 28th (SAT) or February 11th (ACT) testing.   Trickum neither endorses nor participates in TIP except to make this information available to you.   If you choose to register your child, you will need to secure and complete an application independently.    There are TIP brochures available at the Trickum reception desk.  Additionally, you can register for the SAT or ACT through the counseling office at Parkview.

Important Bus Reminders!!
Students may only ride to and from school on their assigned bus. Also, they may only get on and off the bus at their assigned stop. If you need your child to come to school with or go home with another student, you must arrange for their own private transportation. If you wish for your child to be picked up or dropped off at a day-care center or a baby sitter’s house, we may be able to arrange this if the location is on one of our bus routes, if it is a permanent assignment, and if it is for five days a week. Please contact our transportation coordinator for more information. If parents need to arrange an new bus stop due to a move or an alternate bus or bus stop for their children, they will need to supply a lease or closing papers as well as current utility bills indicating service to this address. Bus changes will not be made until that information has been supplied to the school.

At Trickum we have 2 bus calls. On the first bus call, the vast majority of our students load their buses efficiently, and we appreciate their helping us clear the first bus call efficiently. However, a few students linger and delay the buses departure. To eliminate this concern, we are implementing a new bus policy. Students who report to first bus call when their bus has not been called, will be assigned a silent lunch. In addition, we will give students 5 minutes to load the buses in the afternoon. After 5 minutes, we will close the bus doors, clear the bus lanes, and any students not on the bus will need to call a parent for a ride home. Our goal is to keep a small group of lingering students from interfering with an efficient dismissal process. Many of our students, especially second bus call students, have a need to get home in a timely manner and this should help us support those students.

FROM THE CLINIC - Please be aware of the following:

If your child has the need to take medication at school please remember that students are not allowed to transport medication to school. All medication needs to be brought to the school by an adult in the original container and signed into the clinic in order for it to be administered by the school. Medication can not be accepted in envelopes, baggies, unmarked bottles, etc. This practice is in place for the safety of all students. Thank you for your understanding and support!
