Application Instructions for External Applicants

Your completed application and supporting materials are an essential part of becoming a candidate for positions with the school system. In order to complete the application process the following is required:

CERTIFIED POSITIONS (Jobs requiring professional educator certification-Teacher, Counselor, etc.)

  • Online employment application. Please visit Career Opportunities for information about applying with Gwinnett County Public Schools and tips on using the online application system;
  • Teachers with more than three years experience: Two supervisory references on the GCPS Reference Form are required. First supervisory reference must include a reference from your most recent principal. Second supervisory reference may include references from principals, assistant principals, instructional supervisors, or department heads [downloadable form below];
  • Teachers with less than three years of full-time teaching experience: Two supervisory references on the GCPS Reference Form are required. First supervisory reference must include a reference from your most recent principal. Second supervisory reference may include references from assistant principals, cooperating/directing teachers, or college supervisors;
  • New teachers with no teaching experience: Two supervisory references on the GCPS Reference Form are required. First supervisory reference must include a reference from a cooperating teacher. Second supervisory reference may include references from a principal or college supervisor for student teaching. Applicants enrolled in an alternative certification program must provide references from current and former supervisors. A reference from your most recent supervisor will be required before an employment offer can be extended;
  • College transcript(s);
  • Georgia Educator Certificate or out-of-state certificate/license;
  • Content Assessment (GACE Assessment; Praxis II (prior to September 1, 2006); content assessment required for out-of-state certificate/license);
  • Basic skills assessment or exemption (required as part of Georgia approved preparation program entrance requirements). Candidates are exempt from this requirement if they have earned and can produce qualifying scores as follows:
SAT: 1000 GRE: 1030 ACT: 43

CLASSIFIED POSITIONS (Jobs not requiring professional educator certification-Bus Driver, School Food Nutrition, Custodian, etc.)

  • Online employment application. Please visit Career Opportunities for information about applying with Gwinnett County Public Schools and tips on using the online application system;
  • Two supervisory references on the GCPS Reference Form are required. Reference sources must include current and former supervisors. A reference from your most recent supervisor will be required before an employment offer can be extended [downloadable form below];
  • College transcripts (if required for position). Paraprofessional applicants must submit a copy of one of the following: college transcript(s) verifying completion of a minimum of 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours (approx. 2 years) or a passing score on the ETS Parapro Assessment (prior to March 1, 2007) or the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment (available beginning November 2006); Transcripts printed from the Internet cannot be accepted;
  • High School Diploma/GED (if required for position);
  • Copy of Driver’s License/CDL (if required for position);
  • Recommendation Form for School Nutrition Program Manager and Assistant Manager (if required for position).

SUBSTITUTE (Teacher, Paraprofessional, Custodial, etc.)

  • Online employment application. Please visit Career Opportunities for information about applying with Gwinnett County Public Schools and tips on using the online application system;
  • Two professional references from current and previous supervisors;
  • Copy of college transcripts (if required for position). Applicants for Substitute Teacher must submit a copy of one of the following: valid or expired professional teaching certificate or a transcript verifying the completion of at least a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution of higher learning and passing scores for both sections of the GACE Content Assessment..
  • Georgia Educator Certificate or out-of-state certificate/license (if held)

SCHOOL LEADERSHIP (Principal/Assistant Principal)

  • Online employment application. Please visit Career Opportunities for information about applying with Gwinnett County Public Schools and tips on using the online application system;
  • Georgia Educator Certificate at Level 5 or higher in Educational Leadership or comparable certificate from out-of-state;
  • School Leadership Information Form;
  • Resume;
  • School Leadership Reference Form; Applicants for Principal and Assistant Principal must submit a School Leadership Reference Form completed by their current or most recent Principal/Supervisor;
  • Reference Form; One additional professional reference on GCPS Reference Form;
  • College transcript(s);
  • PrincipalInsight™ web-based interview designed by the Gallup Organization. You will receive notification and a link to the PrincipalInsight via email.
