Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

How do I apply for substitute positions with Gwinnett County Public Schools?
We are pleased that you are considering a position in one of the best public school districts in the nation as a possible career opportunity. Please visit Career Opportunities for information about applying for positions with Gwinnett County Public Schools, and tips on using the online application system.

What if I want to work in more than one cluster. Do I have to apply for each cluster individually?
No. You only need to apply for one cluster. Once your application is complete and approved you are eligible to work at any school in the approved position in the district provided you remain in good standing. But remember, substitutes work on an as-needed basis and are not guaranteed employment.

I submitted an application, but have not yet heard back. Who should I contact?
Unfortunately, due to the large volume of applications we receive, we are unable to respond personally to all applicants. Be sure to regularly review your Careers Home and My Checklist pages under your account for communications regarding items still needed for your file and communications. Once your file is completed you will be contacted by Human Resources – Substitute Staffing regarding training and submission of compensation data information.

Now that I completed all my paperwork and met with Human Resources, what is the next step?
Your Approval Letter will be mailed within 4 – 5 business days once we receive employee clearance for hire.
Once you receive your Approval Letter you are eligible to start substituting for any school in the district.

What if I am not receiving calls for assignments?
There are a few options to consider for increasing your opportunities for substitute assignments. Consider adding more schools to your profile by contacting Human Resources – Substitute Staffing (678) 301-6000. But remember, substitutes work on an as-needed basis and are not guaranteed employment.

I have an out-of-state telephone number. Will that effect getting calls for assignments?
Yes. Most schools do not have the capability to dial out-of-state telephone numbers. Please try to secure a local telephone number as your main contact number.

How can I change my contact information?
Please complete an Employee Data Change form. This form can be obtained by Clicking Here. Return the completed form to the address indicated on the bottom of the form.

When do I get paid?
