Protecting yourself from dangerous emails

Email Tip #19: Email Versus Snail Mail
As earlier tips have mentioned, the best spam filters and virus scanners can still miss dangerous emails. Dangerous emails can delete files from your computer, change data inside files, and open holes in your computer’s security system, to name just a few. To protect yourself, be suspicious of:
Any email that does not greet you by name.
Emails that attempt to frighten you into immediate action such as suspension of an account, unauthorized transactions on your credit card, illegal activity regarding a personal account.
Emails containing misspellings or poor grammar. These are designed intentionally to trick and bypass spam blockers.

Summary: Be cautious if your name is not in the email. Beware of emails demanding an immediate response. Watch for emails filled with typos and grammatical errors.
