"A big part of my job is to spotlight success... And what you guys have collectively done for the children of this county is remarkable. If every school system in the country worked with this kind of cohesion, this kind of culture of excellence and high expectations, we, as a country, would be that much stronger."

--U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan

Sec. Duncan recently visited Meadowcreek High and met with elected officials

and a group of GCPS stakeholders to learn about the school system's initiatives to increase achievement and close achievement gaps.

Due to school closings for bad weather in January, GCPS will administer the state's Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) for grades 3-8 one week later than originally scheduled-- now set for April 25-29. This change will give teachers more instructional time with their students prior to testing. The revised testing calendars for elementary and middle school students are online.
