GCPS students see
science at work 
Science Fair 2012 
The 2012 Gwinnett County Regional Science and Engineering Fair saw participation from 899 students from 44 schools representing  Kindergarten through 12th grade. The students shown above participated in one of many live, hands-on science demonstrantions held during the fair, which included a Career Expo, a research symposium, and 14 break-out sessions. Sights and sounds from this year's fair will be featured in the Spring 2012 issue of Communiqué.

Plan to attend a 2012 Area Board meeting   
Five Area Board Meetings will be held in April 2010The Gwinnett County Board of Education and CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks will meet with students, parents, educators, and community members in March and April for Area Board Meetings. The meetings will begin at 7 p.m. in the host school's theater. Citizens may attend any of the five meetings. Find a schedule of Area Board Meetings and regular Monthly Board Meetings online.
Summer School 2012 registration opens   
Registration information is now available for the 2012 Summer School session for high school students, which begins June 11 for online classes and June 12 for face-to-face classes.
GOC extends registration through March 15 
Gwinnett County Online Campus (GOC), Gwinnett's full-time online learning option, has extended registration for the 2012-13 school year through March 15 for students in grades 6-12. Learn more online.
Winter 2012 CoverCommuniqué looks to future... ready for college, career
The Winter 2012 issue of Communiqué  features stories about how our schools prepare students for college and career, including stories about technical and career education, Career Pathways, robotics, foreign language instruction, word study, a Q&A on Gwinnett's eCLASS digital initiative, as well as the "essential" news you don't want to miss.
Board of Education approves new leaders    
The Board announced the following new principal appointments at its January and February meetings:
  • Julie Peyton - Ferguson Elementary
  • Juanita Daunoy - Meadowcreek Elementary
  • Maryanne Grimes - Central Gwinnett High
  • William Bishop - Norcross High
  • Dr. Eric Parker - Shiloh High
  • Todd Marschke - GIVE Center West
  • Dr. Eli Welch III - Shiloh Middle
  • Calendar notes...     Time flies... and so do the days
  • Reminder about this month's testing dates: The Writing Assessment for 5th graders is scheduled for March 7. The Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) are set for March 19-22.
  • Daylight Saving Time begins on March 11. Advance clocks one hour. 
  • This year's Tapestry event will be held for three weeks at the Instructional Support Center with opening nights on March 5, 13, and 20 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Some important dates on the GCPS calendar: March 12 is a student holiday, and students may have off March 30 if we avoid a lost school day to inclement weather. Spring Break is the week of April 2.
