Kudos to the Class of 2010! Best wishes to the Class of 2010!  
GCPS applauds the achievement of more than 8,500 seniors from the system's 18 high schools who are participating in this week's graduation exercises. What's in store for the Class of 2010?

  • After graduation, 90% of the students plan to continue their education by attending college or a postsecondary school.
  • The seniors who plan to continue with their studies have been offered more than $105.3 million in academic, athletic, and military scholarships.
  • Almost half of the graduating class could start college careers several credits ahead, as students took a total of 11,304 Advanced Placement (AP) courses. (Students can earn college credit by passing AP tests.)
     
    Learn more about the Class of 2010, take note of the GCPS graduation schedule, and meet the valedictorians for each high school. 
  • Board approves FY2011 budget
    The Gwinnett County Board of Education adopted its Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 budget as recommended by CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks. The adopted budget is $1.761 billion, and the proposed millage rate of 20.55 mills is scheduled for adoption in June.

    It's not too late to give your feedback on the draft version of the school system's "Strategic Priorities for 2010-2020," a document that articulates what GCPS and our stakeholders, including parents, educators, community members, and business partners, want for the future of Gwinnett County Public Schools. Please take time to complete the online survey before the end of May.
    Public invited to learn about
    common core standards for U.S. schools
    The National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers have selected Peachtree Ridge High as the site for unveiling the "common core standards" for the nation's public schools. Gov. Sonny Perdue, along with other governors and state school superintendents, will be on hand for the rollout of the proposed curriculum standards. The one-hour program will be held Wed., June 2, at 10 a.m.
    ParenTVision logoOperation PTV starts June 7 
    GCPS TV has designated the month of June as Operation PTV, a campaign challenging parents to jumpstart their connection with their teen. Beginning June 7, the station will begin rebroadcasting each of its 16 ParenTVision shows with an added twist-- a conversation starter to help get parents and teens talking. The programs cover Issues for a New Generation, What Parents Don't Know..., Self-Management, and Internal Compass.

  • All GCPS locations will be closed May 31 in observance of Memorial Day.
  • Summer School 2010 begins in June.
  • Gwinnett schools will be open Monday to Thursday between June 7 and July 22. A five-day schedule resumes July 26.
  • Make plans to attend the Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame Inaugural Inductions, and a Gwinnett Braves baseball game, on June 6 at Coolray Field. Call (678) 301-7287 for tickets.
  • Free remediation and retesting classes for the Georgia High School Graduation/Writing Tests (GHSGT/GHSWT) will be held June 23- July 8.
