Alcova Elementary celebrates 100th day of school
 On Jan. 16, GCPS marked the 100th day of the instructional calendar, 
and students at 
Alcova Elementary

    GCPS and the PTA support student success GCPS invites 
    feedback on AKS
    This year's review of GCPS' curriculum offers two opportunities for parents, community members, and staff to share their feedback about the school system's Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. The school system is seeking input on new AKS that have been developed to align with new state Common Core Standards as well as AKS for other new courses. In addition, citizens may suggest additions, changes, or deletions for current AKS. Learn more about both reviews, which run through Feb. 15
    Instructional materials review set for Feb.
    Parents, community members, and staff are invited to provide input on proposed classroom materials in a public review. The review runs from Feb. 11 to Feb. 23, and covers mathematics materials for grades 6-12 and non-fiction books for grades K-5. For more information, please call 678-301-6828.
    Boyce, Seckinger to lead BOE in 2013 
    Carole Boyce and Daniel Seckinger will serve as Board chairman and vice chairman, respectively, for 2013. The Gwinnett County Board of Education typically meets the third Thursday of each month.
    Board of Education appoints new leaders  
    The Gwinnett County Board of Education announced the following new leader appointments:
  • Ruth Westbrooks - Principal of Puckett's Mill Elementary
  • Clifton Alexander - Principal of Simonton Elementary
  • Dr. Michele Smith - Principal of Suwanee Elementary

    Summer School 2013 registration opens

    Registration has begun for the 2013 face-to-face Summer School session for high school students, which begins June 11. Registration for online summer classes begins March 1

    Please take note...     Save the date...      
  • Gwinnett Online Campus registration (grades 4-12) for the 2013-14 school year is scheduled for Feb. 1-28.
  • Feb. 15 and Feb. 18 are designated as snow make-up/student holidays, and schools will be closed barring school closures for inclement weather before then.
  • Feb. 25 and Feb. 26 are K-8 early release days for parent-teacher conferences. Find tips for parents online, including suggestions for making the most of conferences
  • Maxwell High School of Technology will host its open house on Feb. 21, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Registration for 2013-14 starts Feb. 1.
  • The 2013 Gwinnett Regional Science & Engineering Fair is scheduled for Feb. 22 at the Gwinnett Center, beginning at 9 a.m. Visit www.gwinnettsciencefair.com for more information.
  • The Gwinnett County Board of Education will meet on Feb. 28at 7 p.m. at the Instructional Support Center (ISC).
