Jennifer Dunn is overwhelmed after hearing her name announced by CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks at the annual Teacher of the Year banquet. Mrs. Dunn teaches 5th grade at
Pharr Elementary.

82.5% of Gwinnett schools made AYP 
The Georgia Department of Education released its amended 2011 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Reports, and results indicate that four additional schools-- Ferguson Elementary, Creekland MiddleMcConnell Middle, and Duluth High-- made AYP. In a year when state standards rose, 82.5% of Gwinnett County's public schools met the state's accountability goals.
Board adopts legislative priorities for 2012
Georgia's Gold DomeEach year, the Board of Education meets with Gwinnett lawmakers to share concerns about issues that have an impact on system funding and operations. Read about the Board's 2012 legislative priorities, and review contact information for Gwinnett Delegation members. 
Registration opportunities for
countywide schools and programs  
  • Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST) is hosting information sessions on Dec. 13 and Jan. 12. The registration deadline is Feb. 2.
  • Gwinnett County Online Campus (GOC) registration for the 2012-13 year will run Feb. 1 through Feb. 29, 2012. Learn more during information sessions, through Feb. 2. Next year, the full-time school will serve high school and middle school students.
  • Registration for Grayson High School Technical Education Program will begin in January, and the school will host its Open House on Jan. 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Maxwell High School of Technology will host an Open House on Feb. 2, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Share your input on2010-11 AKS brochures the AKS review
    This year's review of the GCPS curriculum offers two opportunities for staff, parents, and community members to share their feedback about the school system's Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS):
  • Review of AKS alignment with NEW Georgia Performance Standards-- The school system is seeking input on new AKS that have been developed to align with new state Common Core Standards.
  • Annual review of CURRENT Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum-- Citizens can give feedback on additions, changes, or deletions for the current AKS.

    Comments will be accepted on both reviews through Fri., Dec. 9.

    Flu season is here and healthy habits bear repeating. Personal prevention-- handwashing and respiratory etiquette, staying home when sick, etc.-- will help minimize the spread of flu. Read additional information and online resources from the CDC and other reputable and reliable resources.

  • High school students will participate in exams during December. Please check the testing dates for high school students for details.
  • The Board of Education will meet on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.
  • Winter Break will be observed for schools Dec. 19-Jan. 2. Students return Jan. 3.
  • Maxwell High School of Technology will host its Career Technical Education Fair on Jan. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m.
