Craig ES, McConnell MS honored as 2002 GA Schools of Excellence

          Craig Elementary, led by Principal Dan Hicks, and J.P. McConnell Middle, headed by Principal John Campbell, were among the 16 schools statewide named as 2002 Georgia Schools of Excellence today.

          - Craig Elementary’s application focused on the school’s improvement efforts in the areas of reading and writing. Craig is part of the Brookwood Cluster.
          - McConnell Middle focused on technology and staff involvement in its application. The school is located in the Grayson Cluster.

          The School of Excellence recognition (which began in 1984) focuses on several vital areas: student focus and support; school organization and culture; challenging standards and curriculum; active teaching and learning; professional community; leadership and educational vitality; school, family, and community partnerships; and indicators of success. Schools participating in the voluntary evaluation process fill out an extensive application.

          State winners are considered for national honors as National Schools of Excellence/Blue Ribbon schools. Gwinnett County Public Schools has 13 National Schools of Excellence/Blue Ribbon Schools and 37 Georgia Schools of Excellence.
