2011 Redistricting Update: Revised Maps Available at Schools and on Website

Since March 7, 2011, the Gwinnett County Board of Education has gathered feedback on proposed attendance lines in the Duluth and Peachtree Ridge clusters. The schools involved in this particular redistricting are Duluth HS, Peachtree Ridge HS, Hull MS, Duluth MS, Mason ES, Chattahoochee ES, Chesney ES, and Harris ES. Through the redistricting process, the enrollment between the two clusters will be better balanced, providing much-needed relief to the Peachtree Ridge Cluster beginning in August 2011.

The school system uses an inclusive process that allows GCPS to gather input from educators, parents, and community members on the proposed revisions. In addition to providing input through Boundary Input Forms, citizens also have provided feedback at Board meetings including the Area Board Meeting for their district. Based on the input gathered, the Planning Department has made several changes to the proposed map. These proposed changes meet the district's goal of better balancing enrollment between the two clusters, while also taking into account the input that has been gathered since early March and minimizing disruption.

As part of its process, the district is releasing these maps, making them available in school locations and on the district website. Citizens may make comments on the revised maps at a public meeting on Wednesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at the Instructional Support Center. It is anticipated that the Board will make its final decision on this redistricting plan on Thursday, April 21, as part of its regular monthly meeting.
