          This week on GCPS FOCUS... coverage of Fire Safety Week events, a firsthand look at what it takes to create a literary magazine, highlights from the Board of Education's monthly meeting, and information about redistricting for six new elementary schools. This week, FOCUS visits: Annistown ES, B.B. Harris ES, Centerville ES, Berkeley Lake ES, Berkmar HS, Bethesda ES, Dacula MS, and Parkview HS.

          Air Dates and Times: 15-minute program airing daily at 6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and midnight.
          Target Audience: GCPS employees and Gwinnett County citizens.


          "Education News Parents Can Use"

          The October broadcast of Education News Parents Can Use will explore a range of child safety issues that concern parents and school officials. The program will offer tools and resources families, schools, and communities can use to help keep students safe.

          Air Dates and Time: One-hour program airing Tuesday, Oct. 15 (live) to Sunday, Oct. 25 (taped) at 8 p.m.

          "Kids Can Cook"
          Scholarly Breakfasts

          The second episode in the Kids Can Cook series highlights nutritious ideas for students to jump-start their mornings. It emphasizes how eating a good breakfast can help students be more alert and more energized. The "Spotlight on Nutrition" segments, provided by Dr. Bill Tinkler, Principal of Snellville MS, and Kathy Benton, Parkview HS/Trickum MS School Nutrition Manager, highlight the Grab-and-Go breakfast programs and "National School Lunch Week."

          Giant Pandas:
          The Science of Finding Food

          This 30-minute program details the Giant Panda Foraging Study, currently being conducted at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C. Students will see National Zoo scientists use various scientific methods to discover just how giant pandas Tian Tian and Mei Ziang find bamboo.

          American Cinema:
          The Studio System

          An instructional video series on film history for high school students and adult learners. This program surveys Hollywood's industrial past during the era of contract players and directors, studio police forces, and colorful movie moguls. Paramount Pictures, one of the oldest and most successful of the Hollywood studios, serves as a case study.
