Superintendent Releases Report on Land Acquisitions

On July 21, 2011, Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks and School Board Chairman Dr. Robert McClure held a news conference to share the findings and recommendations from a third-party review into the district's land acqusition process, specifically for the years 1999-2009. The review, conducted by former U.S. Attorney Joe Whitley, found no evidence of illegal or criminal conduct in the land acquisitions. It did find a few instances where Board policy was not followed explicitly in the site acquisition process, and recommendations were made for improvements in both policy and procedures to address these concerns. The Superintendent and School Board are reviewing the recommendations included in the report and will be addressing them through policy and procedural updates.
