Six Gwinnett County students awarded Legacy Scholarship from Gwinnett Federal Credit Union

Six high school seniors from Gwinnett County Public Schools have received $1,750 each in a Legacy Scholarship given by Gwinnett Federal Credit Union (GFCU). The scholarship is given to students who intend to major in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach upon graduation from college. A total of nine scholarships were awarded based on applications submitted by the students, and were chosen by the GFCU Board of Directors.

The recipients were chosen based on several criteria, including a two page essay expressing their desire to be a teacher and why. Each Legacy Scholarship is given in honor of past and present Board members and employees who have served GFCU for 20 years or more.

The 2005 Gwinnett County recipients of the GFCU Legacy Scholarship are: Katie Almand of South Gwinnett High; Amanda Alvarado of Duluth High; Amanda Carter of South Gwinnett High; Katie Rutlidge of Brookwood High; Suzanne Smethers of Parkview High; and Brenda Zickefoose of South Gwinnett High.
