Schools of Excellence

Schools of Excellence

The following list includes schools recognized at the county, state, and national level. Between 1983–84 and 2002–03, the Georgia Schools of Excellence and the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program identified and honored successful public schools that applied for the honor through a rigorous self-assessment process. Beginning with the 2003–04 school year, the focus of both the state and national recognition programs changed to more closely align with student achievement goals under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. With the new program, the state Board of Education selects schools based on demonstrated excellence in student achievement and/or greatest gains in improving student achievement. Once identified, these schools submit a brief information packet to complete the process. Schools selected for the new Georgia School of Excellence program are considered for the national No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools recognition as well.
