Newsweek's "The Top of the Class" includes 12 Gwinnett high schools

Newsweek magazine published its 2009 list of the top 1,500 high schools in the nation, based on the number of students who take Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests. The two programs are considered the most academically challenging courses for high school students.

"Having Newsweek recognize our schools' work to challenge students academically is exciting," says Dr. Steve Flynt, Chief Academic Officer. "We are pleased that more Gwinnett students are taking and succeeding in Advanced Placement courses, and this recognition is one way for others across the nation to learn about our schools and how they are preparing students for the future. The fact that nearly a quarter of the Georgia high schools recognized by Newsweek come from Gwinnett County is certainly something of which our entire community can be proud."
