USDA beef recall information

USDA beef recall information

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recalled several beef products processed by Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Company. This recall is due to the plant's inhumane treatment of cattle. The recall is not due to any type of food contamination or reports of food borne illness.

As a consumer, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) only uses two of the products listed on the recall order-- Taco Filling and Rotini with Meat Sauce. These items have been on hold since January 31 when the school system was first directed by the Georgia Department of Education and USDA to hold these items pending the outcome of the USDA investiation.

As the school system buys meat products from a number of vendors, menu items containing beef will continue to be served in Gwinnett cafeterias.
