Fine arts activities are not limited to the regular school day. There are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in the visual and performing arts— art and photography clubs, dance, chorus, band, orchestra, and theater. The Kendall Orchestra and the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony are honor orchestras which are open to middle and high school students by audition. Students should ask the instructor at their local school for details. In addition, Gwinnett high schools’ performing groups and many community theater troupes offer performance opportunities for students. For details on the Fine Arts program, contact the GCPS fine arts director at (678)301-7015.
Although the school system does not offer before-or after-school daycare, a number of students participate in various organizations that meet before or after the regular school day. These extracurricular activities may include, but are not limited to:
• Competitive teams, such as Odyssey of the Mind, Future and Community Problem Solving, One-Act Play, Quiz Bowl, Academic Decathlon, Science Olympiad, Literary, Mock Trial, Model UN, Reading Rally, and other academic teams;
• Academic clubs that focus on mathematics, science, writing, foreign language, technology, business and marketing, and other areas of interest;
• Service and leadership groups, and honor societies;
• Special-interest clubs in the areas of debate, chess, video productions, school publications, the environment, and many other student interests.
Offerings vary from school to school. For information regarding extracurricular activities at a specific school, please contact the local school directly.
