Business leaders serve as Principals for a Day
Dan-Kniffen.Freeman's Mill ES
Dan Kniffen of Drew, Ecki & Farnham gets his exercise during a PE activity at Freeman's Mill Elementary. He served as the
school's Principal for a Day during American Education Week, which brought 130 members of Gwinnett's business community
into local schools
 for the annual event,
co-sponsored by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce
 and GCPS.

"Mr. Benefield was a great man... he was a great educator, a great businessman, and a great servant to this community. If you look around Gwinnett, you can see many things that are the direct result of Mr. Benefield's contributions. He served this county well as Superintendent, but he also did much outside of that role. He was a prince among men and will be sorely missed by me, personally, and by the school system. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this sad time, and we would like to thank them for sharing him with us."

--J. Alvin Wilbanks, CEO/Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools, on the passing of
J.W. Benefield on Dec. 30.
Mr. Benefield served as Gwinnett's superintendent
from 1967 to 1977.

Nearly half of the money to be collected from the SPLOST extension is allocated for technology projects, paving the way for the district's eCLASS initiative. This digital content, learning, assessment, and support system is an umbrella for both existing technology resources and projects and new resources to enhance student engagement and the teaching and learning process. A multi-year project, eCLASS will pilot in schools in the Archer, Berkmar, Duluth, North Gwinnett, and Shiloh clusters in August.
