Watch for back-to-school news in the August issue of
GCPS students make top marks on the CRCT 
A higher percentage of GCPS test-takers in grades 3-8 met or exceeded state standards than their peers statewide on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests. In addition, Gwinnett students surpassed the state average for students performing at the highest level-- Level 3-- exceeding state standards.

Gateway review
The vast majority of Gwinnett 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th graders required to meet local Gateway promotion requirements passed on the first try and earned promotion to the next grade level. An established review process kicked in for 316 students who did not do as well as expected, based on grades. Learn more about this year's review results online.
HOPE changes affect Learn more about HOPE changes for 2011
college-bound students
Starting in the fall, the HOPE scholarship will be tied to lottery revenue and will no longer cover full tuition, fees, books, and remedial courses. For 2011-12, the scholarship will cover about 90% of tuition. The new Zell Miller Scholarship for top students will cover full tuition. Board appoints new leaders
The Board announced the following new principal appointments for 2011-12 at its May meeting and at a special called meeting on June 27:
  • Janice Warren - Anderson-Livsey Elementary
  • Jeffrey "Jeff" S. Hall - Maxwell High School of Technology 
  • Dr. Steve Frandsen - Annistown Elementary
  • Dr. Terry Watlington - Norton Elementary

    Moore Middle, charter schools 
    join system roster in August  
    Moore Middle School will open in August 2011
  • A number of upcoming events have been scheduled to celebrate Moore Middle School's opening this August. Go online to learn about July 17 tours, a special welcome for 6th graders on July 21, and Aug. 4 Open House events. 
  • The addition of Gwinnett County Online Campus, a charter high school, and Ivy Preparatory Academy will bring the school district's charter school tally to five for the 2011-12 school year.

  • Gwinnett schools will follow a four-day work week (Monday to Thursday) through July 21. A five-day schedule resumes July 25. Please contact your student's school for office hours.
  • The 2011-12 calendar and school starting and ending times for the new year are posted online.
  • The Gwinnett County Board of Education will meet Thurs., July 21, at 7 p.m.
