Board approves FY2013 budget
The Gwinnett County Board of Education adopted its Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 budget as recommended by CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks in the amount of $1.73 billion. In adopting the budget, the Board also tentatively adopted a millage rate of 19.25 mills for maintenance and operations and 1.30 mills for debt service.

Hearty congratulations are in order for almost 10,000 seniors from GCPS' 21 high schools! What does the future hold? 

College or postsecondary school for 86% of graduates, with 13 headed to military service academies. Learn more about our graduates online: Meet the Valedictorians for the Class of 2012, Gwinnett's 11 Gates Millennium Scholars, 30 Hispanic Scholarship Fund recipients, 15 National Achievement Scholars, and 23 National Merit Scholarship winners funded by corporations, colleges, and NMSC.

GCPS 5th graders shine on writing test  
More than 12,600 Gwinnett students took the Georgia Grade 5 Writing Assessment in March 2012. Overall, the school system's average passing rate of 93% was a 1-point gain over last year's passing rate and a system record. Of particular interest, a higher percentage (24%) of test-takers exceeded state standards, well above the state average of 11%.

Board of Education appoints new leaders    
The Gwinnett County Board of Education announced the following new principal appointments for 2012-13 at its May meeting and at a special called Board Meeting on May 24:
  • Dr. Susan Bearse - Berkeley Lake Elementary
  • Dr. Michael Zinn - Berkmar High
  • Phyllis Dartt - Cedar Hill Elementary
  • Angie Pacholke - Freeman's Mill Elementary
  • Tonya Burnley - Gwin Oaks Elementary
  • Toni Ferguson - Knight Elementary
  • Crystal Cooper - Sycamore Elementary
  • Gwinnett Online Campus
    reopens 2012-13 registrationGwinnett Online Campus logo
    Gwinnett County Online Campus (GOC), Gwinnett's full-time online learning option, has reopened registration for the 2012-13 school year through June 21 for students in grades 6-12.  
    Shiloh High authorized for
    International Baccalaureate
    Shiloh High has been authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme (PYP) for 2013-14. Students in 9th grade during 2011-12 will begin the full two-year IB Programme as juniors in fall of 2013. Shiloh High joins Peachtree Elementary, Pinckneyville Middle, Summerour Middle, and Norcross High as the district's IB schools.
    Take note of these dates...     Don't forget!
  • In a money-saving effort, Gwinnett schools will follow a four-day work week (Monday to Thursday) between June 11 and July 19. (All summer school classes also will follow this schedule.) A five-day schedule resumes July 23. Please contact your student's school for summer office hours.
