The Class of 2012 gets ready for graduation

FY2013 budget documents
available for review    
Following two budget-related work sessions in April, the Gwinnett County Board of Education tentatively adopted the Superintendent's Recommended Budget for FY2013. The $1.7 billion budget will accommodate a growing student population of more than 163,050 students. Budget hearings are scheduled for May 10 and May 17, with the final adoption expected on May 17 and adoption of the millage rate in June.
Summer School 2012 set for students  
Registration information is now available for the 2012 Summer School session for high school students, which begins June 11 for online classes and June 12 for face-to-face classes. Families of qualifying elementary and middle school students will be notified by their student's school later this month about GCPS' free Academic Summer School set for June 18 to July 12. For all summer classes, July 4 is a holiday and classes do not meet on Fridays.
Board of Education appoints new leaders    
Year-end retirements prompted three leadership appointments in April. The Gwinnett County Board of Education announced the following new principal appointments for 2012-13:
  • Ken Johnson - Archer High
  • Peggy Goodman - Five Forks Middle
  • Mary Thomas - Pharr Elementary
  • Apply to serve on
    curriculumGCPS values your participation committee   
    Citizens are invited to apply to serve on the 2012-13 GEMS Oversight Committee, which completes an annual review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. Members serve three-year terms. Completed applications should be returned by June 1.
    New online resources for GCPS families 
  • The latest edition of BeThere@GCPS, the system's e-newsletter for involved parents, is now available. Register to receive future issues.
  • Visit the 2010-2020 Strategic Priorities web page and review the 2012 update, "Strategic Priorities: Building a Better Gwinnett." The video link runs for approximately four minutes.
  • Calendar notes...     Every day is a fresh start for teaching and learning in GCPS
  • The testing window for End of Course Tests (EOCTs) is open through May 16, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams through May 18. Final exams for grades 9-12 are scheduled May 21-23.
  • The 2012 graduation schedule is available online.
  • The last day of the school year is Wed., May 23.
