During the school year, the Department of Communication & Media Relations produces a media tip sheet called "News You Can Use, which is distributed to metro Atlanta news outlets electronically. This publication provides school and system news, including recent honors, upcoming events, calendar items, and photo opportunities at local schools and central office locations. The tip sheet is sent out at the end of each week, and covers news and GCPS items of interest for the coming 7-10 days.

HONORS
Peachtree Ridge High Teacher Debbie McAfee was selected to participate in the annual reading and scoring of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations over the summer for English Language and Composition. The AP program gives more than 1.8 million high school students an opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses and examinations. Based on their exam performance, students can receive credit and/or advanced placement when they enter college. This year, more than 3.2 million examinations from more than 30 AP courses were evaluated by more than 10,000 AP readers from universities and high schools. Dacula High Teacher Christy Belbey attended the 84th annual conference of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) in Montreal in July. Ms. Belbey has taught French for 19 years and was one of 500 attendees from around the U.S. and several other countries. “In5ive” Be sure to watch In5ive for weekly updates on the latest in school and system news. A new program begins each Sunday and airs for that week.This 5-minute program airs this week at 7 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

“The Author in You - Roland Smith” Tune in to GCPS TV’s “The Author in You” and learn why Roland Smith, award-winning author of young adult books, believes “If you can read, you can do anything.” Smith explains step by step how he writes a novel— from thin initial idea to the finished manuscript. Books written by Roland Smith include “Zach’s Lie” and “Thunder Cave.” This 30-min. program airs August 15-21 at 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Spanish for Educators - Level 2” Spanish for Educators is a valuable language resource and learning opportunity provided by GCPS TV. This 10-part series, taught by Elisa Brown, assistant principal at Hopkins Elementary, is an introduction to the Spanish language tailored especially for educators and other school employees. Hour-long segments will air at 11 a.m. Monday-Sunday.

Tune in to Gwinnett County Public Schools’ educational access channel for education programs and information. TV cable channels and providers include: Charter on Channel 22, and Comcast on Channel 24 and 26.
