This publication provides school and system news, including recent honors, upcoming events, calendar items, and photo opportunities at local schools and central office locations. The tip sheet is sent out at the end of each week, and covers news and GCPS items of interest for the coming 7-10 days.|

Mill Creek High Principal Jim Markham and the school’s PTA will sponsor a community Q&A session at the first meeting of the year on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. The informational night offers an opportunity to meet the principal and new PTA officers, become a member, and find out more about volunteer openings at the school. Mill Creek High senior Kevin Flores danced with the Atlanta Ballet Summer Program. Kevin recently received a letter of invitation, offering him a full scholarship to dance for the ballet this season. For more information, call 678-714-5850.
Dr. M.H. Mason, Jr. Elementary will host the following PTA and Curriculum Nights for parents:

Dr. M.H. Mason, Jr. Elementary’s PTA will sponsor a fundraiser-- “Mason on the Move Fun Run” on Aug. 31 during school hours. Throughout the day, students will run laps for pledges they have taken. On designated days throughout the year, Dr. M.H. Mason, Jr. Elementary students may meet at assigned stops and walk or ride their bikes to school in a group. Sept. 8 has been designated as a “Walk and Roll to School Day.” For more information, call Lisa Carthy at 770-814-9276.
Louise Radloff Middle will host a Community Open House on Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the media center. Parents and community businesses are invited for lunch and a tour of the school. The Peachtree Ridge High Roaring Lions Marching Band will perform their 2006 show “Going Somewhere?” on Sept. 16 at the Suwanee Day Parade. In addition, the band will enter three marching competitions this year. One competition will be held at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. “The Author in You - GCPS Summer Writing Institute” Coming up on the season premiere of “The Author in You,” viewers get an inside glimpse at the GCPS Summer Writing Institute where students, teachers, and authors worked together to create a garden full of stories. Tune in to see the creative process in full bloom, and hear from noted authors Carmen Deedy, Terry Kay, Lester Laminack, and Ralph Fletcher. This 60-minute special airs Aug. 28-Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“GCPS Focus” This week on “GCPS Focus”... Summer learning for students and staff, preparations for the new school year, AYP success stories at two Gwinnett schools, and a look at the new Trickum Middle School. This 30-min. program airs Aug. 14-20 at 6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., and 11 p.m.
“Special Education: Ensuring Excellence for All - Education News Parents Can Use” (U.S. Dept. of Education) This edition of “Education News” showcases successful inclusion programs in schools and profiles research-based, early identification and intervention initiatives. This 60-min. program airs Aug. 28-Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.
