This publication provides school and system news, including recent honors, upcoming events, calendar items, and photo opportunities at local schools and central office locations. The tip sheet is sent out at the end of each week, and covers news and GCPS items of interest for the coming 7-10 days.|

The following recent GCPS graduates have been named finalists in the 2005 Robert C. The Berkmar High PTSA will sponsor an open house on August 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. The program will begin with entertainment from the band, chorus, Fast Steppers, and cheerleaders in the gym and commons areas. The Norcross High Marching Band will perform music from the Beatles at upcoming football games. In addition, the band will perform at the Gwinnett North County Marching Band Exhibition on September 26 at Norcross High. Tickets are $5 at the gate, with children under five admitted free. Upcoming performances include the Brookwood Marching Classic on October 1, the Lassiter High School Marching Band Showcase on October 8, and the Collins Hill Eagle’s Nest Invitational on October 15. The Mill Creek High yearbook class began writing sports articles highlighting Mill Creek sports for School Sports magazine which is published every two months and distributed throughout the Atlanta area. The first edition of the 2005-06 school year is due out in September and will include writing from the following students: Katy Hackett, Lyndsey Peterson, Noreen Refai, Kelley Samples, and Brittany Stephens. “In Five” Stay connected with Gwinnett County Public Schools by tuning into “In Five” for weekly updates on the latest school and system news. This 5-min. program airs daily at 7 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m, and 10 p.m.
“NASA Sci-Files - The Case of the Barking Dogs” The Tree House Detectives accept the challenge of determining why dogs have unexpectedly started barking in the morning and late at night. This 60-min. program airs August 29-Sept. 4 at 9 a.m.
“Essential Science for Teachers - Earth and Space Science” Annenberg/CPB This video, print, and Web-based professional development workshop is designed to help K-6 teachers gain a better understanding of some of the bedrock science concepts they need to teach today’s standards-based curriculum. This 60-min. program airs August 29-Sept. 1 at 11 a.m.
“English...Yes, I Can! (Series 2)” English...Yes, I Can (Series 2) is a video telecourse designed to teach English literacy skills to adult learners. Series 2 is scheduled to air August 1 through Sept. 1 on GCPS TV. The 60-minute program airs Monday-Thursday at 9 p.m., and again at 1 a.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
