Recent State and National Honors and Recognitions...

The Shiloh High AFJROTC unit was selected to receive a 2008-09 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award.

Two Maxwell High School of Technology electronics students were accepted to participate in the national Aggreko's SelecTech program.

Students from Brookwood, Duluth, and Shiloh high schools received the Principal's Leadership Award national scholarship.

A Central Gwinnett High student was named a Questbridge Scholar and will attend college on a full scholarship.

48 GCPS seniors were named 2009 National Merit Scholar Semifinalists through the National Merit Scholarship Program.

A Parkview High student earned top honors in the River of Words environmental poetry and art contest.

A Collins Hill High student was selected for membership in the national honor society.

Students from Phoenix High and North Gwinnett High earned Best of Show at the 18 Annual Pace Photography Competition.

A Duluth High graduate was awarded the Yoshiyama Award for Exemplary Service to the Community, a prestigious national award given to only ten students from across the country.

A Parkview High student achieved a perfect score on a college entrance exam.

A Maxwell High School of Technology student was accepted into the Mercedes--Benz Universal Technical Institute.

A Parkview ROTC Cadet won a national championship in varsity-level orienteering.

Eight GCPS high schools were honored as AP Honor Schools by the Georgia Department of Education.

Mill Creek High teams were named 2008 state champions in AAAAA Competition Cheerleading and Softball.

A Mill Creek High student from the school's softball program was named 2008 State AAAAA Player of the Year.

The Peachtree Ridge High Boys Cross Country team was named AAAAA state champion for 2008.

The Collins Hill High Girls Cross Country team was named AAAAA state champion for 2008.

A Peachtree Ridge High student was the 1st place winner of the Fire Safety Essay contest sponsored by the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.

A Norcross High student earned the Best of Show award at the Atlanta High School Art Exhibit (Dogwood Festival).

A Glenn C. Jones Middle and Lanier Middle band directors each received the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference.

A Sugar Hill Elementary teacher has been nominated to serve on the National Board of Trustees of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association-- a national organization for teachers of music and movement.

A Brookwood Elementary counselor and a Five Forks Middle counselor had books published.

Three GCPS staff members graduated from the National Staff Development Academy.

An Art Teacher from Trickum Middle will receive the 2009 Outstanding National Junior Art Honor Society Sponsor Award from the National Art Education Association.

A Margaret Winn Holt Elementary teacher was selected for a Teaching Ambassador Fellowship by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

Two Gwinnett counselors-- one from Berkeley Lake Elementary and one from Collins Hill High-- were among 10 finalists for National Counselor of the Year.

A Norcross High counselor was featured in American School Board Journal magazine for her article "Race Against Time," which highlights the school's ESOL program.

A Sweetwater Middle teacher was chosen to participate in the Northrop Grumman Foundation Weightless Flights of Discovery program for math and science teachers.

A Shiloh High Visual Arts teacher won the Elizabeth Catlett Printmaking Award at the 2008 New Power Generation Juried Art Exhibition.

A Nesbit Elementary teacher was recognized by the Association of Teacher Educators, Georgia Unit.

Three GCPS seniors were named 2009 Georgia Scholars.

A Nesbit Elementary teacher was published in a national magazine-- Arts & Activities.

GCPS teachers from Parsons Elementary and Trickum Middle were selected to participate in the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Teacher Academy.

Mill Creek High's Softball Coach was named 2008 State Coach of the Year.

Twelve GCPS schools were named "top high schools" by Newsweek.

Parkview High students enrolled in the school’s MCJROTC (Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) unit earned the school a designation as a “Naval Honors School.

Media programs at Meadowcreek Elementary, Mill Creek High, and North Gwinnett High were named Exemplary Library Media Programs of the Year by the State Department of Education.

GCPS athletic programs won several AAAAA state championships including Boys Soccer at Collins Hill High, Girls Golf at Mill Creek High, Girls Soccer and Boys Track at Parkview High, and Boys Golf at Peachtree Ridge High.

A number of GCPS staff, PTA units, and PTA leaders were awarded first or second place at the state level in a variety of categories at the 2008 Summer Conference and Leadership Training of the Georgia PTA.

GCPS community schools received a state grant for driving simulators from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

GCPS earned five Awards of Excellence in the National School Public Relations Association's 2008 Publications and Electronic Media Contest.

GCPS’ Communication and Media Relations Department received three Best in Category Awards, eight Gold Awards, two Silver Awards, and one Bronze Award in the 2008 Publication, Photography, and Electronic Media Contest of the Georgia School Public Relations Association.
