Recent State and National Honors and Recognitions...

Berkmar High art students were winners in the 2010 Youth International Art Contest.

A Brookwood High Jazz Combo received the "Outstanding Combo" award in the Combo Division at the Lakeside jazz Festival in Florida.

A Brookwood High student was selected to perform with the American High School Honors Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.

Collins Hill High Winterguard ranked 5th in the Nation as finalists in international competition in the Winterguard International World Championship.

A Dacula High senior has been named a recipient of a National Association of Secondary School Principal and Herff Jones Inc. Leadership Award Scholarship.

Duluth High students posted the highest scores in the U.S. on the National Geography challenge in their respective divisions.

The Parkview High Marine Corps JROTC Orienteering Team won 1st place in the National Orienteering meet, and 2nd place in the Varsity High School Interscholastic Championship.

Students from Sweetwater Middle, Collins Hill High, and Parkview High were Georgia finalists for the Doodle for google art contest.

31 Grayson High School Technical Education Program students earned state SkillsUSA honors a the 46th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference.

A North Gwinnett High and Parkview High student were recognized at the National Art Honor Society Conference.

Four GCPS students earned top honors at the All-State Art Symposium.

Students from Norcross High, North Gwinnett High, and Parkview High were honored for their work at the 6th Annual Georgia High Ceramic Arts and Awards Symposium.

A Meadowcreek High student was recognized in the 4th Congressional District Art Competition earning a $2,500 scholarship to the Art Institute of Atlanta.

Six Shiloh High students have been selected for Junior Achievement fellowships.

Two Duluth High musicians were selected as members of the National High School Honors Orchestra.

Three Brookwood High students and one Collins Hill High student were named semifinalists in the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology.

The art work of a Brookwood High student was displayed in the U.S. Capitol.

A Norcross High student earned 'Best of Show' in the Georgia High School Ceramic Arts Awards and Symposium.

A Central Gwinnett student was appointed to serve on the state superintendent's Student Advisory Council.

Several GCPS teams won state championships including Brookwood High Boys Swim and Dive Team, Collins Hill High Dual and Traditional Wrestling Teams, and Norcross High Girls Basketball Team. The Gwinnett Heat adapted sports basketball team earned the title State Runner Up.

Grayson High School Technical Education Environmental Science Program students placed 1st place in the state turkey event at the Wildlife Management competition.

The North Gwinnett High Technology Students Association (TSA) won 1st Place in the Georgia TSA Boat Armada competition.

Several GCPS teams won 2009 AAAAA State Championships including Peachtree Ridge High's Co-Ed Competition Cheerleading Team, Mill Creek High's Competition Cheerleading Team, Brookwood High's Boys Cross Country Team, and Collins Hill High's Softball Team.

A Norcross Elementary student's art work was displayed on the Georgia Youth Art Month flag.

A Meadowcreek High student was recognized with a $2,500 scholarship in the 4th Congressional District Art Competition.

A Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology earned a $500 award from the Southeast United Dairy Association for a winning video.

A Grayson High teacher and a Simonton Elementary teacher have graduated from the National Staff Development Council Academy.

GCPS added 19 educators to the list of Master Teachers certified by the state.

A South Gwinnett High teacher has been chosen to participate in the 2010 House Fellow Program in Washington, D.C.

A Brookwood High teacher earned the ING Unsung Hero Award and a $2,000 scholarship for his "Bio-tech-nology." project.

An Osborne Middle Spanish teacher was named a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute fellow and received a $5,000 scholarship.

A Trickum Middle art teacher will travel to Costa Rica with an education award from the Toyota International Teachers Program.

The Director of Social Studies was received the 2009 Outstanding Social Studies Supervisor Award from the Georgia Leadership Association for the Social Studies.

The Georgia School Counselors Association recently named a Creekland Middle school counselor as 2009 Georgia Middle School Counselor of the Year; the Principal of Jones Middle, as the 2009 Georgia Counseling Advocate of the Year; and a Cedar Hill Elementary counselor, as the 2009 Georgia Counselor Writer of the Year.

A Parkview High teacher was named 2008-09 Georgia Technology Student Association (TSA) High School Advisor of the Year by the Georgia TSA.

A Maxwell High School of Technology construction teacher was among the educators honored by the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia.

The Parkview High Marine Corps JROTC unit was selected as a Naval Honors School.

The Shiloh High Air Force Junior ROTC Unit GA-871 was selected to receive the 2009 Distinguished Unit Award from the US Department of the Airforce.

Central Gwinnett High earned regional honors in the Governor's Cup Challenge with SAT improvement.

34 Gwinnett schools were named Title I Distinguished Schools by the State Department of Education.

Berkmar High was named Division I Winner at the State Academic Decathlon. Mill Creek High was named Division I 1st Runner-up.

As a first-year finalist for the prestigious Broad Prize, Gwinnett County Public Schools was awarded $250,000 in college scholarships for graduating seniors next spring. The Prize honors five large urban school districts that demonstrate the strongest student achievement and improvement while narrowing achievement gaps between income and ethnic groups.

GCPS has been voted 2009 Best Employer and will be featured in the January issue of Gwinnett Magazine.
