Promotion and Graduation Requirements

Promotion and Graduation Requirements

In the 2011-12 school year, the State Board of Education funded CRCT testing for students in grades 3-8. For designated grade levels, all students must take their grade-level Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT), or the state's alternative assessment, in the subject areas of reading, English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

For promotion, the state requires students in grade 3 to pass the reading CRCT. Georgia students in grades 5 and 8 are required to pass the reading and math CRCT subtests.

These tests— when used with homework, projects, classwork, and teacher-developed tests— help parents and teachers measure student achievement for a particular year. For some grade levels, a passing score on these tests is a Gwinnett promotion requirement. Visit the links below for more information on promotion requirements for students in these grades.

If you have questions about promotion/graduation requirements for your child, please contact your child's school.
