Make a "I Think I Can" class book. Students dictate or write end of the sentences and illustrate it. |
Activity: Introduction: Write PERSEVERANCE on the board. Orally define "sticking to a purpose or aim, never giving up what one has set out to do." Ask students to give examples of perserverance. Write down their examples on chart paper. At the end of the week have them do this activity again to see what they have learned.
Activity:
1. Read the story THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD to the large group. Have the children join in on the lines, "I think I can...."
2. Ask questions: How was the Little Blue Engine different from the others?
3. Talk about the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
4. Ask the students to re-tell the story and sequence the events.
Assessment:
Give students drawing paper with the words "I think I can...." Have the students dictate or write the end of the sentence. Then have them illustrate their responses.
