Long and Short Sounds for Halloween

1) Observing and listening to the chanting, clapping, and playing of short and long sound patterns
2) Visually checking each child's paper strip patterns

Activity:
- Teacher and students echo-sing the song twice.
- Teacher introduces rhythmic piece with motions (T241) using short and long sounds.
- Students practice the speech piece with motions.
- Teacher and students discuss the words that have long and short sounds.
- Teacher and students discuss and experiment with instruments that could be played in the rhythmic piece to demonstrate the long and short sounds. Instruments are then selected.
- Students, accompanied by the CD, sing "Pumpkin Stew". In the musical interlude, students chant the rhythmic piece, then repeat the song with instruments.
