Julie Hatcher is a veteran librarian who first joined GCPS in 2001 as a media specialist at Parkview High. Prior to that, she served as a librarian for the Gwinnett County Public Library and in a similar position in Florida. In 2004, she helped open Mill Creek High School as a media specialist. At Mill Creek she serves over 4,000 students and describes her interactions with students as the favorite thing she does each day.

"The best part of my job each day is just talking with students about books and what they like to read.I do not know the last time I read and 'adult novel' because I find young adult literature so enjoyable."

In her four years at Mill Creek High, Ms. Hatcher has played an active role with several initiatives that support teaching and learning. "Faculty members appreciate that Julie is not only knowledgeable, but also friendly and easy to approach, " says a colleague about Hatcher. "She has established a media center that has a competent and nurturing environment."

In addition to her duties as media specialist, Ms. Hatcher is also very involved in and outside the school campus. She had led Mill Creek High School to state level wins in the Reading Competition. She is an active member of the Georgia Library Media Association, the American Library Association, and its young adult literature subcommittee.
