Kathy Schmidt of Rock Springs ES is the 2011 Gwinnett County Media Specialist of the Year. In nominating Kathy, the administration said, " Mrs. Schmidt has created a media center that all students love to visit. She has collaborated with teachers to create lessons that not only support the instructional calendar for each grade level, but also provides high level thinking skills and student engagement."
"In an effort to support our school’s technology initiative, Mrs. Schmidt has provided training to students and staff on how to use technology to enhance learning. During the course of the school year, she works with students in all grade levels to teach them research skills as well as help them prepare presentations", according to Angie Pacholke, Principal at Rock Springs.
Ms. Schmidt has a bachelor's degree of Science in Communication Studies from Emerson College, Massachusetts and a Master's in Library Media Technology from Georgia State University, Georgia. In 2010 she was named Teacher of the Year at Rock Springs ES. Ms. Schmidt has presented a Gerogia Library Association conferences as well as GCPS media conferences in the past and will present Reader's Theater with a Technology Twistat the Gwinnett County Summer Leadership for school and county administrators in June, 2011.
