Suzanne Skeen

Suzanne Skeen of Parsons Elementary School is the 2010 Gwinnett County Media Specialist of the Year. In nominating Suzanne for this honor, the administrative team at Parsons said that "she is an inspiration to the teachers around her...a true leader. Teachers in all areas of the school rave about the work she does to support them and their students."

In fact, supporting teachers is one of the duties she enjoys the most, especially training teachers on new technology. She also works closely with students to promote reading and literature and has created a schoolwide reading initiative "The Amazing Reading Race" challenging students to read 100 minutes a week.

Suzanne helped open Parsons Elementary in 2003. She holds a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of South Florida, a master's degree from Georgia State University in Library Media, and a specialist's degree in Instructional Technology from Valdosta State University. In 2005, she was named a Gwinnett County Public Schools Teacher of the year semifinalist.
